    2014 was an exciting year for The Motor Company as it launched its new Touring line transformed by Project RUSHMORE, a customer-driven effort by Harley-Davidson to fundamentally improve every aspect of the riding experience. The culmination of an intense four-year product-development programme, Project RUSHMORE introduced category-leading technology and design enhancements that recalibrated the expectations of touring motorcyclists.

    More than 250,00 people came to Milwaukee for the final stop of the Open Road Tour and the Harley-Davidson® 100th Anniversary Celebration and Party. Live concerts were held on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday with music from Doobie Brothers, Tim McGraw, Bob Dylan, Kid Rock and many more.

    Arnold Schwarzenegger rode a Harley-Davidson® Fat Boy® in blockbuster movie ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’.

    Harley-Davidson® became the first corporation to create a factory-sponsored motorcycle club. H.O.G.® today, with one million people worldwide, is more than a motorcycle organisation. It’s a worldwide family of enthusiasts who just want to ride and have fun.

    Willie G. Davidson and twelve other Harley-Davidson® senior executives sign a letter of intent to purchase Harley-Davidson® Motor Company from AMF. The Company celebrated becoming a privately owned company again, with the slogan ‘The Eagle Soars Alone’.

    This year saw the Harley-Davidson® Number 1 logo, designed by Willie G. became one of the most popular in the company’s history.

  • 1969

    Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper rode their customized Harley-Davidson® motorcycles into American cult status in the landmark 1969 film, ‘Easy Rider’. Harley-Davidson® merges with the American Machine and Foundry Company (AMF), a longtime producer of leisure products and started the era of product diversification.

    Willie G. Davidson joined the company on February 18, 1963 with a background in industrial design. He is probably the most recognizable face of Harley-Davidson®.

    Elvis Presley was featured on the cover of Enthusiast magazine sitting on a 1956 model KH.

  • 1948

    The ‘peanut tank’ first appeared on the Harley-Davidson® ‘model 125’. This tank then became a styling touchstone on generations of both production Harley-Davidson Sportster® and custom motorcycles.

    The teardrop tank has been a key feature of Harley-Davidson® motorcycles since its introduction in 1925, famous for its ergonomics and handling.

    By 1920, Harley-Davidson® is the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world. New Harley-Davidson® motorcycles can be purchased from over 2,000 dealers in 67 countries worldwide.

    Almost half of all motorcycles produced are sold for use by the U.S military in World War I.

  • 1916

    The Harley-Davidson® Enthusiast begins its reign as the longest continuously published motorcycle magazine in the world.

  • 1912

    Harley-Davidson® exports motorcycles to Japan, making the first ever sales outside the U.S.

  • 1910

    The famed ‘Bar & Shield’ logo is used for the first time. It is trademarked at the U.S. Patent office one year later.

    1903 Harley-Davidson® Motor Company was founded by William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson, and later Walter Davidson.
