2014 was an exciting year for The Motor Company as it launched its new Touring line transformed by Project RUSHMORE, a customer-driven effort by Harley-Davidson to fundamentally improve every aspect of the riding experience. The culmination of an intense four-year product-development programme, Project RUSHMORE introduced category-leading technology and design enhancements that recalibrated the expectations of touring motorcyclists.

More than 250,00 people came to Milwaukee for the final stop of the Open Road Tour and the Harley-Davidson® 100th Anniversary Celebration and Party. Live concerts were held on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday with music from Doobie Brothers, Tim McGraw, Bob Dylan, Kid Rock and many more.

Willie G. Davidson and twelve other Harley-Davidson® senior executives sign a letter of intent to purchase Harley-Davidson® Motor Company from AMF. The Company celebrated becoming a privately owned company again, with the slogan ‘The Eagle Soars Alone’.

Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper rode their customized Harley-Davidson® motorcycles into American cult status in the landmark 1969 film, ‘Easy Rider’. Harley-Davidson® merges with the American Machine and Foundry Company (AMF), a longtime producer of leisure products and started the era of product diversification.

Willie G. Davidson joined the company on February 18, 1963 with a background in industrial design. He is probably the most recognizable face of Harley-Davidson®.
